What Persimmon does
Persimmon (formerly ParChcast) is a golf yardage app for iPhone and Apple Watch. It shows live distances to the green, advances holes automatically as you walk, and keeps a record of your rounds.
Without an account
Everything in this section is how the app works for everyone who does not sign in.
Location. Your GPS position is used, while you play, to compute distances and to advance holes. It is stored only in your round history on your devices.
Motion. On Apple Watch, wrist motion is recorded during a round to detect swings and help place shots. It is processed and stored on your devices.
Health. With your permission, Persimmon runs an Apple Health workout during rounds (this keeps the watch app running with your wrist down), reads heart rate, energy and distance for that workout, and saves the round as a golf workout. Health data is managed by Apple's HealthKit on your devices — we have no access to it.
If you sign in (optional)
Signing in uses your email address and a one-time code. We store that email address to identify your account. Once you are signed in:
- Each round is sent to our server when it ends: the course, the date and time, and for each shot its position, the club and any tag you gave it. This is what Shot Pattern on porchcast.co shows you.
- Courses or corrections you publish are stored with your account as their author.
Health data and raw wrist-motion data are never sent.
Course library & network requests
When you search for or import a course, the app contacts our course server. Search terms — and, if you use "Near me," your approximate coordinates — are sent to answer that request and are not linked to any identity or retained beyond standard, short-lived server logs. Publishing a course is optional and happens only when you explicitly share it; a published course is visible to everyone.
Widgets
The watch complication and iPhone Lock Screen widget read a small yardage snapshot that the app writes locally on your device. Nothing is sent anywhere.
Weather
In-round weather references use Apple Weather (attribution). Requests go through Apple's WeatherKit under Apple's privacy terms.
Who we share with
No one. There is no advertising, no analytics service and no data broker. Our servers are hosted by a cloud provider that stores the data on our behalf.
Deleting your data
Rounds and courses on your devices are deleted when you delete the app; workouts saved to Apple Health stay under your control in the Health app. To delete your account and every round stored with it on our server, open the sign-in screen in the app (Profile → Shot Pattern) and choose Delete account. If the same sign-in also holds data from another Porchcast app, the golf data is deleted and the app tells you the account was kept; email us and we will remove the rest.
Children
Persimmon is not directed at children under 13.
